MOTIVATED VENDORS - THIS CUSTOM GRP CATAMARAN SAILING YACHT, FULLY EQUIPPED FOR BLUEWATER CRUISING, IS PRICED TO SELL AT ONLY - NZ$335,000 **NOW SOLD**
This catamaran must be seen to be believed. Spend some time with her owners and you begin to appreciate the amount of time and effort that has gone into producing a very easily maintained, well engineered and supremely comfortable live aboard catamaran.
Designer Derek Kelsall, is not only known for his pioneer work in GRP sandwich construction methods, Kelsall was first to race the North Atlantic solo in a multihull, and was first to win a major open offshore race in a multihull. Kelsall was Britain's top multihull race designer for many years and Designer of
several boats holding sailing performance records.
The Equateur 45 is a custom design by Derek Kelsall. The owners brief to the designer was for a strong bluewater cruising vessel, that offered spacious accommodation, realistic load carrying, ease of maintenance, light weight, and sailing performance.
Built in GRP/Divinicell composite in Singapore and vacuum bagged for strength and lightness, there has been nothing spared in the quality of her construction.
The clever design, with flared hulls, yields an interior volume and cockpit space normally found on a larger vessel, yet the vessel has sleek lines, and low windage.
She has a very roomy and spacious interior, with a white paint or gelcoat finish that is very easily maintained and will always look good. Lots of light from opening hatches and excellent ventilation make her a pleasure to live on.
The layout is great with a workshop / laundry area in the port hull and a very roomy galley to starboard. Big double berths and tons of storage space. The cockpit is where you will be spending a lot of time and the way this opens into the huge saloon and lounge area make it a space you will never get tired of.
The galley of Sauvage offers loads of freezer and refrigeration, double s/s sinks, plenty of storage and work space, and is fully usable in comfort when sailing.
The present owners have lived aboard for 11 years, and refitted and upgraded Sauvage for extended cruising. The watermaker, refrigeration system, washing machine etc, run from 12 volts. With twin wind turbines, 1600 watts of solar panels, and a large Lithium battery bank, the electrical system is independent of the main engines, and the yacht can remain at anchor, or under sail, for weeks without running the engines to charge the batteries. But when you do run the engines, twin BALMAR 120A HI-Output alternators and smart regulators “top off” the batteries quickly.
Her systems are designed for simplicity and ease of use. You will not be spending time in marinas waiting for some obscure part before cruising away. Reliability has been the number one priority in everything. There is nothing you need to do to this yacht. She is absolutely ready to go cruising.
A performance rig will keep her moving well in all but the lightest of breezes and her simple sail handling systems are designed for short handed use. Kelsall has designed a very practical 45 foot catamaran with good sailing qualities and J.P. Chesne has built her extremely well.
All standing rigging, turnbuckles, terminals, insulators, bushes, and pins were replaced in 2018, along with a new Harken Genoa furler, a new Gennaker furler, and a new Gennaker and Screacher by Zoom Sails.
In 2020 the owners fitted a new fully battened Mainsail and Genoa, also by Zoom Sails.
Sauvage was in Malaysia when the covid epidemic started, about to depart for a 3 year cruise via Japan to Alaska, the West coast of the USA, and on to South America. This plan had to be abandoned, and instead Sauvage made the 8500 Nm voyage back to New Zealand via Australia.
The owners situation has now changed. After 26 years of offshore cruising we have accepted that we must pass the torch, and our much loved yacht, to new owners, who have a new dream to follow.
Our loss will be your gain, whether you only wish to live aboard, cruise Australia or NZ, the Pacific Islands, or voyage further afield.
